Before starting the setup process, you’ll first need to make sure that your PC is VR Ready. Below we’ll walk you through two methods.

How to check if your PC is VR Ready

Method 1: Run SteamVR Performance Test

The easiest way to check it is running SteamVR Performance Test, which measures your system’s rendering power using a 2-minute sequence. 

1) Launch your Steam app and go to the STORE.

2) In the search box, type performance test, then click the SteamVR Performance Test app from the list of results.

3) Then on the following SteamVR page click on the Play now button and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

Once complete, run SteamVR Performance Test. This may take up to 2 minutes. Then it will show you a summary screen showing you how good your PC is.

If it’s all green, you’re good to go.

If anything pops up as red or yellow, then it’s probably a good idea to look at upgrading your PC before going any further.

Method 2: Manually check if your PC is capable

The other way to see if your PC can handle VR titles is comparing your own specs with the compatibility requirements.

If you have no idea how to check your hardware specifications, follow the simple instructions below.

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box.

2) Type in dxdiag and hit Enter.

3) Under the System tab, you’ll see your Operating System, Processor, and Memory.

To check what graphics card you’re having, simply go to the Display tab.

Apps for setup and gameplay

After confirming that your PC meets the requirements, you’ll need to download and install two apps: SteamVR and the official Oculus PC app.

1. SteamVR

To access a library of Steam games with your Quest 2, you’ll need to have the SteamVR app, which is the ultimate tool for experiencing VR content. And downloading it is easy-peasy.

For most people, once it’s downloaded, it will appear at the bottom of your browser window. Simply left-click on the file to run it and follow the simple instructions to install the app. 

The first time you run it, it will take you through a first-time setup process where you will need to log in with your Meta / Oculus account, or create one if you don’t have one already.

Two methods to connect your Quest 2 to PC: with a cable & wirelessly

There are options to connect your Quest 2 to your PC: via Link or Air Link.

1. via Link (Cable)

Using a cable to connect your Quest 2 with a PC is quite easy. But you won’t be able to move around as freely, as you’ll be tethered to your computer. And in order to have an optimal and comfortable experience, you should have a high-quality USB cable that is at least 3 meters (10 feet) in length. When you’re prepared, take the steps as follows to set up.

1) Turn on your Quest 2.

2) Launch the Oculus app.

3) Select Quest 2 and click Continue.

When they’re connected successfully, there should be a Solid green circle with the white check mark. Now all you have to do is click Continue.

6) On the screen that appears, choose Test Connection, which is highly recommended as this can help you make sure that your cable works perfectly. After that, you’re good to go.

7) On your Quest 2, it will ask for access to data, simply click Allow.

8) Once you’ve enabled access to data, it’ll ask you to enable access to Oculus Link, simply click Enable.

9) Now look at the bottom of the screen. Click on Library.

10) Go to Apps. Then click Filter and toggle on Unknown Sources.

11) Go back to your main screen. From the bottom-right, click on Desktop. This will show you your PC screen.

12) Here you should find the SteamVR as a desktop shortcut on your desktop screen which was created when SteamVR was installed. While pointing at the SteamVR icon with your controller, hold down the trigger button for a second and then release the trigger. In the pop-up menu that is displayed, select Open and it will run SteamVR. 

Once SteamVR loads, which can take a while, you’ll be on a different home screen which is the Steam home screen that displays any games you’ve purchased on the Steam store. Just select the one you want to play. 

2. via Air Link (wirelessly)

Oculus Air Link is a wirelessly way to play PC VR games on your Quest 2. Users with a strong Wi-Fi setup can choose to stream wirelessly through Air Link.

1) Run the Oculus app on your PC. Select Quest 2 and click Continue.

2) Select Air Link (Wireless) and click Continue.

3) Put on the headset, open Settings. Then click on the System tab.

4) Now select Quest Link from the left navigation menu. And then toggle on Quest Link. 

5) Click to Launch Quest Link.

6) Toggle on Use Air Link. select your PC and click on Pair.

7) Then you’ll need to confirm a code on both your PC and the headset. 

8) After you’ve confirmed it, click Launch.

The next time you connect your headset you won’t need to go through that pairing process again. You would just be able to hit Launch straight away.

9) You will now be redirected to the Oculus PC VR home screen. To play Steam games, go back to the home screen. At the bottom right, select Desktop from the menu bar. This will show you your PC screen.

10) Here you should find the SteamVR as a desktop shortcut on your desktop screen which was created when SteamVR was installed. While pointing at the SteamVR icon with your controller, hold down the trigger button for a second and then release the trigger. In the pop-up menu that is displayed, select Open and it will run SteamVR. 

You may get a message popping up in your Quest headset saying that you can’t run apps from unknown sources.  This is because Meta regards the SteamVR app as an unknown source. Fortunately, this is easy to fix. 

In the Oculus app on your PC, go into your Settings and go to the General tab. There is an Unknown Sources toggle. Try to toggle it on. 

When it’s enabled, you will be able to run SteamVR without any issues!

Once SteamVR loads, which can take a while, you’ll be on a different home screen which is the Steam home screen that displays any games you’ve purchased on the Steam store. Just select the one you want to play.

Before getting started

Roblox isn’t available as an Oculus Quest 2 game, so you’ll first need a VR-ready PC. That means your PC needs to meet the minimum system requirements:

How to play Roblox on Oculus Quest 2

• Head to the Oculus Quest 2 setup page and click DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE.
  
  
• When the download is complete, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
• Launch the app. Make sure you click Devices on the left pane.
  
  
• Click Add Headset.
• Select Quest 2, then click Continue.

Try these fixes

Here’s a list of fixes that have resolved this problem for other Nintendo Switch players. You don’t have to try them all. Just work your way through the list until you find the one that works for you.

1. Check the server status of Nintendo eShop
2. Reboot your Nintendo Switch console
3. Toggle Airplane mode on and off
4. Check the DNS settings on your console
5. Connect your console to a different wireless network
6. Use a VPN connection
7. Reset cache

Check the server status of Nintendo eShop

It’s possible that there’s something wrong with the server side of Nintendo eShop. Before trying any other troubleshooting steps, you need to check the latest operational status.

You can visit the Network Maintenance Information/Operational Status page to review the latest maintenance and service status information for all Nintendo network services.

If the server of Nintendo eShop happens to be under maintenance, it’s normal that Nintendo eShop is temporarily unavailable, and there’s little you can do on your side. Once the server of Nintendo eShop goes up, you should be able to access Nintendo eShop again.

If you find that all the servers are operating normally, but Nintendo eShop still won’t open on your console, try the next fix, below.

Reboot your Nintendo Switch console

According to some players, a simple restart would fix this issue. If you haven’t tried rebooting your Nintendo Switch console, just give it a shot.

To restart your Nintendo Switch console, hold the POWER button for three seconds, then select Power Options > Restart.

Connect your console to your wireless network and open Nintendo eShop. See if you can visit Nintendo eShop on your console.

If this issue persists, try the next fix, below.

Toggle Airplane Mode on and off

Another simple trick to fix this issue is toggling Airplane Mode on and off. This fix has helped some players, so if you haven’t tried this yet, just give it a try. Here’s how to do it:

1. On your Nintendo Switch console, hold the Home button and scroll down to select Aireplane Mode.
2. Press A Button on your console to turn Airplane Mode on.
3. Wait 10 seconds, and press A Button again to turn it off.

Connect your console to the Internet and open Nintendo eShop. See if you can access it. If Nintendo eShop still won’t open, read on and try the next fix, below.

Check the DNS settings on your console

You may not be able to load Nintendo eShop if you misconfigured the DNS settings on your console. To fix this issue, follow the steps below to check the DNS settings:

1. From the HOME Menu of your Nintendo Switch console, select System Settings.
2. In System Settings, go to Internet > Internet Settings.
   
3. Select the network you’ve connected to and then select Change Settings to review the DNS settings.
   

If its DNS settings is set to Manually, but is not required for your network, change it to Automatic. See if you can access Nintendo eShop after setting the DNS settings to Automatic.

If its DNS settings was set to Automatic but you still failed to link a Nintendo Account to your Ninento Switch console, it may suggest that there is something wrong with the DNS service from your ISP. In this case, try manually entering an alternate DNS.

To enter an alternate DNS on your console:

1. From the HOME Menu of your console, go to System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
2. Select the network you’ve registered and then select Change Settings.
3. Select DNS Settings, then select Mannual.
4. You can use the public DNS provided by Google. To do so, just enter 8.8.8.8 as the Primary DNS and 4.4.4.4 as the Secondary DNS.
   
5. Save the changes and reconnect the console to your wireless network.

Open Nintendo eShop and see if you can visit it. If this issue persists, you can also try using SmartDNS on your Nintendo Switch.

If you still failed to load Nintendo eShop, move on to the next fix, below.

Connect your console to a different wireless network

You may also run into this issue if there’s something wrong with your home network. If possible, try connecting your Nintendo Switch console to a different wireless network.

If there is no additional wireless network available, you can also create a hotspot using your mobile data on your phone, and connect your console to the hotspot.

See if this issue persists after you connected your console to a different wireless network. If you still failed to load Nintendo eShop, try the next fix, below.

Reset cache

The corrupted cache may also stop you from accessing Nintendo eShop. In case the issue is triggered by the faulty cache, try resetting the cache for all users who’re experiencing this issue. Here’s how to do it:

1. From the HOME Menu of your console, go to System Settings > System > Formstting Option.
2. Select Reset Cache.
3. Select the user that you want to clear cached data for, then select Reset to confirm.

Open Nintendo eShop after you reset the cache. See if you can visit it. If you’re still unable to load Nintendo eShop, try the next fix, below.

Use a VPN connection

If none of the fixes above works for you, just give VPN a shot, since geo-blocking and ISP bandwidth throttling would also lead to this issue.

1. Temporarily disable your antivirus

Many users report that Steam is usually in conflict with Windows Firewall and other antivirus software. Therefore, if you’re using any antivirus software, try to disable it before you launch Steam.

Despite the fact that antivirus software would sometimes prevent a trusted program from accessing the Internet, we still recommend you keep using an antivirus, especially one that can handle more demanding processes and protect your computer from viruses, hackers, and spies. Below are the ones that are recognized as trustworthy:

• McAfee
• Norton
• Kasperksy
• Bitdefender

However, if disabling antivirus doesn’t work for you, it’s time to identify the issue by making sure your Windows Firewall isn’t blocking Steam. To do this, you’ll need to manually add Steam to the list of exceptions by following the instructions below.

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box.
2. Type or paste control panel and press Enter.
   
   
3. Click System and Security. (Make sure you set Category as the “View by”. )
   
   
4. Click Allow an app through Windows Firewall.
   
   
5. In the search field, type steam. If it is on the list, then ignore the steps listed below and follow the instructions to disable Windows Firewall and antivirus software.
   
   
   
   If Steam isn’t on the list, move to the next step.
6. Click Change settings > Allow another app….
   
   
7. Click Browse…. Then navigate to your Steam app’s installation folder.
   
   
   
   (Usually, it’s located at C:Program Files (x86)Steam. If you can’t find it, simply enter steam in the Search box and then you’ll see the Steam app from the list of results. Then from the right pane, click Open file location. )
   
   
8. Click Add.
   
   
   
   Then you need to make sure that Domain, Private, Public are checked.
   
   
   
   After you’ve done this, launch your Steam client. If your problem persists, you need to disable Windows Firewall by taking the steps below:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box.
2. Type or paste control firewall.cpl and press Enter.
   
   
3. Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
   
   
4. Tick Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) for Domain, Private, and Public network settings. Then click OK to save changes.
   
   

Then launch your Steam client. If you’re still getting the error, try the next fix below.

2. Disable proxy settings

Large amounts of bandwidth are required when you’re using proxy servers to sustain the burden of heavy traffic. This could lead to a bad internet connection. To prevent this from happening, you should disable proxy settings. Below are the steps you can follow:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box.
2. Type or paste inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.
   
   
3. Select the tab Connections and click LAN settings.
   
   
4. Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN. Then click OK to save changes.
   
   

When the changes are applied, open your Steam client and check if your problem is solved. If your problem persists, don’t worry. There are a few more methods for you to try.

3. Run Steam as an administrator

Some programs won’t work properly just because they lack administrative rights. To fix the issue you’re having, try to grant administrator access to Steam. Here’s how you can do this:

1. On your desktop, right-click on the Steam icon and select Properties.
   (If you don’t have a shortcut, simply go to Steam’s installation folder and right-click Steam.exe and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). )
   
   
2. Select the Compatibility tab. Check Run this program as an administrator. Then click Apply > OK.
   
   

After applying the changes, open your Steam client and your problem should be gone. However, if running Steam as an administrator doesn’t give you any luck, proceed to the next fix.

4. Add -tcp parameter to Steam shortcut

Steam uses UDP, User Datagram Protocol for data transmission. Though UDP is faster, TCP, Transmission Control Protocol is more reliable. In order to get rid of the update error, you can attempt to change protocols:

1. On your desktop, right-click on the Steam icon and select Properties.
   
   
2. Select the Shortcut tab. In the Target section, add -tcp after the quotation marks.
   
   

If this doesn’t give you any luck, try the next fix below.

5. Use the Registry Editor

Using the Registry Editor to reset some data value is a classic fix. also for the Steam update error. Follow the steps below to do this:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box.
2. Type or paste regedit.
   
   
3. Go to the following folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREValveSteam
   Then double-click the string value AlreadyRetriedOfflineMode on the right pane.
   
   
4. Make sure the value is set to O. Then click OK to save changes.
   
   

If this doesn’t work for you, proceed to the next fix.

6. Change your DNS server

When troubleshooting the Internet connection, switching the DNS server is one of the recommended steps. This can provide you with better connectivity and performance for your internet connection. Here we would like to recommend Google Public DNS. Follow the instructions below to set Google Public DNS as your DNS server:

1. In the bottom-right corner of your desktop, right-click on the network icon and select Open Network & Internet settings.
   
   
2. In the Status tab, scroll down and click Change adapter options.
   
   
3. Right-click on your network connection, whether it’s Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and select Properties.
   
   
4. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Then click Properties.
   
   
5. Tick Use the following DNS server addresses:. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference. Then replace those addresses with the following ones:
   
   Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
   Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4
   
   Then click OK to save changes.
   
   

After you’ve done this, launch your Steam client and your problem should be resolved.
